Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

There is a discussion about it going on in another part of the forum . Well sort of. The discussion is actually about modding an N64 to be truly "Any Region" which involves on the electronics side of things a few mods: 1) Taking the PIF's from both an NTSC and a PAL unit, then putting them into a ci...

Re: N64 region mod

Found this german forum thread when looking for MX8330/MX8350 specs and location of the chip on the N64 board: http://circuit-board.de/forum/index.php/Thread/8877-N64-PAL-NTSC-Switch-möglich/ There is a circuit diagram at the bottom for a crystal switching system which changes the crystal used to dr...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Like you said running NTSC software on PAL consoles "works" -- it runs too fast - this also manifests in audio, which is also programmed by the game and is based on the video clock. Some games do not refill the audio buffer in a deterministic way which results in a quiet pop/clicking. Does a simila...

Re: N64 region mod

You beat me to this idea..

One console (PAL or NTSC) loading games using a flashcard outputting HDMI but able to switch base clock frequencies dependant of it you are running NTSC or PAL code - right?

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

I'm mainly concentrating on speed related points here and trying to gain a clear idea of the issues at hand: The output video standard is decided by the software (i.e. the game). A PAL game in any N64 will output a PAL-encoded 50Hz signal while an NTSC game in any N64 will produce an NTSC-encoded 60...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Ha.. Spent so long on my post I didn't notice you answered it already - though I guess that what this means essentially is that if you have a HDMI enabled console and use a 64Drive (or other flash cart) and load NTSC games - it doesn't matter (much) any more if you have a PAL or NTSC console in term...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

2) I've been reading around the subject concerning NTSC and PAL units and their frame rates. As far as I can tell European units are driven at a slower base clock rate in order to reduce the output for PAL signal to 50Hz. Am I correct in thinking that the clock rate of a unit affects the overall ex...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

http://ultrahdmi.retroactive.be/ Scroll down to the bottom and you will see "Use both Plugs at once." I assume they don't effect each other. That's what you get when you are used to skim reading pages and mentally blanking out pictures as "non informative guff". I think I must spend too much time r...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Most of my work revolves around work fixing laptops and computers, so I'm new to console mods. I have a few questions to clarify my understanding of the results that the mod will achieve on differing hardware. I understand that you are taking a frame feed direct from the RPC, then buffering and proc...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

I'm new to the forum, but I've been following the development of this project for a couple of years now. I'm looking into offering an installation service in the UK (maybe EU later). I'm currently looking into costings to work out how much I'll need to charge for the service. Once I've figured out s...
