Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Totally off topic I'd say but figured this might be the place to voice this question: Would it be possible for the UltraHDMI to display frame rate for the current game? I was thinking about this the other day and it'd be fantastic if it could as not only have I always wanted to know, but have been i...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

It appeared to be the ones immediately in the gaps of the FCC ribbon. I'm going to assume they were VCC (mainly because they were earthing) but I'd suspect the black screen is because the output is earthing too much to become a proper signal. It's good to know they're pretty hardy, and I've usually ...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

So we all want a follow up right? :) One of the first projects I was given was soldering old ram chips onto a PCB - the basic premise being "if it doesn't work, you've done something wrong. Go back, check it, fix it, try again. Eliminate each problem, and do it again"...we've been doing that! I spen...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

I'd not thought of bridging under the ribbon either...can it stand up to heat from the gun? I lifted and checked one last night and did it by slowly heating the solder at one side and then releasing it gradually. I'll be doing a bloody good check with the microscope by the sounds of things and tryin...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Interesting you'd mention lifting the pins - I did notice solder wicking up around the ribbon under the microscope but figured it was what was on my iron... I might try lifting the ribbon in one case and checking the points. In the other I'll try and touchup along the ribbon itself with some more fl...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Thank you for the super fast reply! It's heartening to know that I couldn't have cooked the chip from the iron being too hot...but that's not solving the problem I suppose... To answer your questions: I was taught to solder from the military, so figure I'm not being massively destructive. I'm not us...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Hey everyone! Hobbist installer here who brought a few HDMI boards off of Game-Tech.us. While I'm no stranger to soldering small chips and traces, and have a decades experience under the hood of a N64, I've had two consoles die from just attaching the connector ribbon. I figure I'm running my iron t...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Hey MobiusStripTech!

I watched a few of the install videos and figured it was worth giving it a crack. I ended up purchasing three - one for myself and I've two mates who would like a unit, so fingers crossed!

Still - depending on how I find things I'll definitely keep that offer in mind!

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

So amongst those of us in New Zealand the pickings are a little slim. In saying that I've also got about enough experience to install these units (based off of the videos that I've watched). How on earth would I go about buying a small batch (say: 5) to start doing installs for our tiny country? I'm...
