Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

3) I would use RCA for now. The audio from the HDMI output is a bit scratchy, possibly overloaded, or the low bitrate of N64 audio may be decoded improperly. I believe this can likely be fixed in an update. There are no delay options. If you have an issue with delay, you may be able to use Direct M...

Re: N64 region mod

You beat me to this idea.. One console (PAL or NTSC) loading games using a flashcard outputting HDMI but able to switch base clock frequencies dependant of it you are running NTSC or PAL code - right? Yes, but I do not think it is possible to automatically switch to the right frequency.. I do know ...

Re: N64 region mod

I am planning to at least swap the crystals of my PAL N64 to NTSC values. Perhaps I can make a circuit so you can switch between both. Considering I use a flashcard to run NTSC games, I do not really see any use in adding an NTSC PIF as well.

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

I have made a very simple HDMI mod for the N64, so I know this in quite some detail. The framerate is decided by the RCP. The RCP sends out the hsync, vsync and video color data. The DAC is really stupid, it directly converts this data to composite, s-video, etc. I am from a PAL area, but I use a fl...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Marshall, I just had to join and say that this is great news. Congratulations! I have been following the development of this very closely and I have been very impressed with the work, and the perfect quality of the video output. I will be using mine 1:1 just for the raw output and hopefully with go...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

I know Nintendo consoles were spoken of as potential candidates for future ports, but is there any chance of an HDMI board for Sony PSX or Sega Saturn/Dreamcast based on the UltraHDMI's technology? There already is something coming out for Dreamcast: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/sega-dreamca...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

i thought the n64 output 44.1khz audio, does that mean the 48khz output would be resampled? is there a setting to change this? I believe the N64 uses multiple sample rates (different per game) and they also seem too far off from a standard rate, so some TVs would have trouble with it. How is the co...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

marshallh, how fine do our soldering skills need to be for this mod? I hope there won't be pins smaller than on an MSOP chip. It depends on your N64. They come with different video DACs. I think this page lists them all. The MAV-NUS is hardest to solder and that is definitely smaller than MSOP. Her...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Looks really nice. For some reason I could only get 1080p on google chrome and not on firefox. (Edit: failed to read your post correctly about the browser. ) Have you thought about adding an option to only display scanlines when the N64 is outputing progressive? As you know a lot of games switch bet...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Here's a very large picture showing 1:1 pixel correspondence with raw VI output. You'll notice the N64 is horizontally blurring 320 to 640 pixels. I never noticed it before running 1:1 pixels on the display. http://retroactive.be/img/i/ra5503a8fa41ceb4281.jpg So the N64 is sort of interpolating the...
