1.03 is out and fixes that issue. Mr. Badass can probably upgrade it for you before sending - the upgrader file is on the installer page. I haven't hashed out whether to make it public yet since it opens up the bricking liability can of worms.

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

So will there be absolutely no physical changes to the hardware in the coming year? The hardware has been finalized since June. There may be a HW2 eventually as chip prices change but it's a pretty big endeavor and won't happen without good reason. I have a couple tricks left up my sleeve still wit...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

What hardware would be needed to update firmware? (Is there a FAQ somewhere?)
The upgrade comes as a N64 ROM. So anything that can run that will work. I need to finish the main site and get that up soon.

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Well, the trouble with the algos is they are designed for limited color palettes where pixels have high contrasts with each other. If you try running these filters on some N64 3D graphics, the results are.. interesting. Bright, loud games don't look bad, but dark games look even more muddy and even ...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Thanks for the tip with Paper Mario. It seems that the sample rate is 32khz, of course it varies between ~31800-~31900 causing my elastic buffer to go into hysteresis. I could hear it once I put on headphones and cranked it up. It seems to affect the string samples. Levels are fine (they are kept 1:...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Marshall, Is there an ideal US motherboard version for this mod? I figure if I am going to drop another $130 into one of my N64's, I should make sure it is absolutely ideal. Any version works fine. @marshallh, could you verify what happens on the "streched" PAL ports that just draw the 240 line pic...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Just swap the 17mhz crystal for a 14.31818mhz one (easily available from lots of vendors or even scrap PCI cards, etc) Then configure the pin on your clock generator (either two MX8330s or a combo MX8350) to run either NTSC or PAL for the right ratio. Your analog video output will now be broken thou...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Like you said running NTSC software on PAL consoles "works" -- it runs too fast - this also manifests in audio, which is also programmed by the game and is based on the video clock. Some games do not refill the audio buffer in a deterministic way which results in a quiet pop/clicking. Additionally R...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

1) Will this affect the traditional analogue signals that can be output from the system? No, the signals are not affected in any way. At first I thought there might've been interference but it turned out to be my potato craposite capture card. I've done simultaneous captures. 2) I've been reading a...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

It's done! There were some big problems before I could take people's money though - Started taking orders through Paypal and quickly realized that was a disaster, they grabbed my money and threw a kink right before I was going to announce to installers. So, I went through about 20 online shopping ca...
