Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

how will this compare to rgb colors and clarity and do you mod it on to the n64s for other people or do they have to install it themself? also how far along is it coming. please answer all of my questions
Most of these questions are answered in this thread...

Re: N64 region mod

Ok, I think I'm finally getting to grips with what I need to do. I need to remove the crystals that are connected to the MX8330s on my mb, for example in pos C39 (pin 5&6 on osc). I then hook up pin 5&6 to the FPGA and use that instead of 2 new crystals, and I do the same to both MX8330. Does that ...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Haven't finalized the direct modes. Buffered modes are 480p and 1080p. I'm still considering what to do about PAL with its extra lines, whether to resample it to fit 480 or find a nonstandard mode. I have done some tests with audio - rough, unfiltered audio is coming thru HDMI now. Next rev came in...

Re: N64 region mod

Allright, I think I have all the info I need and I am more confident about this now. I will order a 14.318 MHz oscillator soon and see if I can make one of my PAL N64 run like an NTSC one. Unfortunately I will be moving in two weeks and I have some other projects as well, so it could take a while. I...

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Haven't finalized the direct modes. I have done some tests with audio - rough, unfiltered audio is coming thru HDMI now. Next rev came in recently and I finished assembly. It'll connect directly to the flex. Holy shit, this sounds awesome! Must have been awesome when you first heard sound through H...

Re: N64 region mod

I have read the datasheet of one of the clock generators (not sure if the other one is the same, the print on it is not). It seems easily possible to remake it with an FPGA. One thing confuses me though. The only output frequency that the clock generator matches is the "colour sub". I calculated wha...

Re: N64 region mod

I am a bit confused at the moment. My knowledge is not very great. I see two crystals on my PAL N64. I suppose these are the RAM(17.7 MHz) and VID XTal (17.7345 MHz). I have no idea how to read the values on them though. I think both of these crystals are connected to separate clock generators. Thes...

Re: N64 region mod

I think we could leave the ram alone and just change the vid. Yes, it should fix the sound and video. I figured, if we are going to do this we might as well make NTSC games run completely the same on a PAL N64. I guess we have the option to generate the clock signal with an FPGA using the PLLs. I h...

Re: N64 region mod

Both sound and video is a bit of if you play an NTSC game on a PAL machine... I have a quote some of did of OzOnE NTSC... Colour sub = 3.579545 MHz Vid Xtal = 14.318 MHz RAM Xtal = 14.7 MHz RCP = 60.852265 MHz CPU = 91.2783975 MHz RDRAM = 249.9 MHz PAL... Colour sub = 4.4336188 MHz Vid Xtal = 17.73...

Re: N64 region mod

Any tips for the de-soldering?
Interested in this as well.

Just a short question. I assume that currently if you play NTSC games on a PAL console the games run too fast?

Edit: which clock speeds need to be generated (both for NTSC and PAL). Then I can take a look how to design it.
