Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

Let's all just relax. :) The existing GC mod is somewhat simple. It will convert the GC picture with minimal amount of processing into HDMI/Component. It does not do any upscaling/format processing (allthough it seems you can enable line doubling for 480i, but that is kind of a waste of resolution)....

Re: N64 region mod

Sounds good, I think your TV should just show the picture fine.

Re: N64 region mod

What kind of TV are you using? I think your TV should at the very least give a black and white picture.

Re: N64 region mod

So my thought was to first try out just some chip switching before going forward with crystals. I'm doing it on bread board before doing the mod properly. My headache right now is that if my jap console switch to jap PIF I have no way of knowing if it works seeing I have no cable/display to support...

Re: N64 region mod

I think I can help you with the FPGA code. Do you have experience with VHDL or Verilog?

Re: N64 region mod

This sounds good. If I understand correctly, you only have the PAL PIF connected at the moment? The HDMI mod will definitely fix your problem. I think you have a 50Hz video signal with the colors at NTSC carrier frequency at the moment. If you swap some of the crystals as well it should fix it I gue...

Re: Hooking up a normal controller to an iQue

If you look at this picture you will see that it should be very easy to replace the thumbstick with an original N64 controller's thumbstick since the iQue uses the same 6pin connector: http://retroactive.be/ique/ique_case_5.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/23212729/20130428_221212.jpg That i...

Hooking up a normal controller to an iQue

I am active in the speedrunning community from time to time. Some people do their Ocarina of Time runs on iQue, because it is essentially a no/less lag version of the N64 one, with super fast text. Unfortunately the controller kind of sucks and the analog stick can be awkward as well (holding straig...

Re: N64 region mod

Buy one of those $50 hotair stations (like the Atten 858) and just heat the pins/pads until the solder melts. Any risk of damaging the PIF using the hot air? Looking at a Swedish version of the Atten 858. Yes there is a risk, but that is also when soldering it. Just try not to heat it for too long....

Re: N64 HDMI converter thread

what about someone who don't know how to do it and wants but doesn't want their system destroyed? Based on that you will have to either buy a pre-modded console or send your console to a reseller/installer to be modded. Although I believe many of us are hoping to do the installs ourselves.
