Same here! If I mess up a 64 I'll just use another one. Would have been cool if the install could have been more similar to the fpga-HDMI mod on the Amiga, there you just push the PCB in place over the video chip, but that would have been impossible on the N64.

Marshall, let us solder :-)

I don't have the FPC fabbed yet for the connection. So I'm hand wiring the first proto:

So since I'm not that into this scene yet I need a translation to layman lingo :-) What is the difference in connection on the finished product?

Edit: Forgot to mention that that is one sexy image ;-)

He means a ribbon cable a very thin one. Search fpc.

Am I going to have to desolder the multiav out on my n64? I mean I can do that and haven't problems do so nor do I lack the skill. I just want to have a clear understanding. Also I can see that there will most likely be two boards, the first being the hdmi board as shown and the second being a board that is soldered to the video chip and has a fpc slot.

The more you tease, the more I want it! :D
Nice clear soldering there!
Could you provide us more info regard the installation? Seems like it'll sit under the motherboard and totally replaces the multi av out?

It doesn't replace anything. It sits under the AV out port, but doesn't require any changes, except for a small notch in the lower case half. It's possible to have mini-HDMI and the AV cable both plugged in.

I will get a pic sometime.

Good news: first HDMI proto is doing its thing! I just got the RAM working earlier today. I have some errata to fix with this board, but it works well on my big TV.

No processing or anything, this is as simple as it gets. While this TV has about half a second of lag thru the composite analog input, there's 0 lag through HDMI.

Before you get excited, remember, this is like 5% of the total work required before I can ship this thing. But it's a start.

Im also in awe of the skill! Im really pumped for this mod, and have been telling everyone I know in the speed running community about it. Just wanted to say keep up the good work, and I wanted some clarification on the "direct" mode. On games that change resolutions it causes issues, but for games that don't, direct mode could be used, and the lag for that mode would be 0?(making the delay just the input delay on the monitor) I'm so excited to be able to use my monitor instead of crt for runs!
