For anyone experiencing the audio return channel issue. I have successfully cut this trace for customers and it successfully resolved their issues. So this is a viable method of correcting the issue.

I recently encountered an issue that I'm not sure if anyone's already brought up. Some games that make use of the Expansion Pak have a "Hi-Res" option. Games like Turok 2, Perfect Dark and World Driver Championship. On each of these, when I engage "Hi-Res Mode" in the game, the de-blur disengages and the scanlines disappear. It's like the "Hi-Res" option bypasses the UltraHDMI's settings while still sending audio and video through the HDMI cable.

Has anyone else encountered this?

Many games switch from progressive to interlaced for their High-res modes. For example, NHL 99 renders something like a 512x384 framebuffer, then stretches it to 480i for display.

Other games like Perfect Dark switch from 320x240 to 640x240 (still progressive). So it's double the horizontal resolution but it's still 240 progress vertical lines. Deblur will turn off but scanlines will remain on because it's still progressive.

Did you use a Xacto knife or with a small dremel?

I used an xacto knife and a very steady hand.

true PAL games.

I didn't post this here first because, not having any HDMI enabled display (my PC monitor is still VGA), I mostly skip threads like this.
But I did answer to another thread that seems to be a spinoff of this one, from someone asking about this very thing, and I thought that those interested might miss the other post.

I'm talking about the question of whether there are any PAL games that take advantage of the higher resolution.
And, in fact, there are some, but, so far, very few that I could verify.
In short: PAL versions of GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, and Diddy Kong Racing do display in PAL resolutions with no scaling/stretching; which is to say, FB lines are mapped 1:1 to screen lines. This is not to say they render 288 lines. Most N64 games render to odd resultions most of the time. Most or all of the NTSC games render to sub 240p resolutions, but, most of the time, the mapping is 1:1, with some rare exceptions. Some NTSC games do upscaling/stretching too, particularly in hi-res interlaced modes.
There's a lot of weirdness going on in N64 video.

I've read that there is a newer version of firmware out 1.06? Is there a place to download it and is it possible to update with flash cart or does it need to be marshallh's carts? Thanks.

You can download it from the installer page and any flash cart can be used.

Hello,
I cannot upgrade the firmware of the ultraHDMI. Currently it runs on firmware 1.05 and I'm trying to upgrade to 1.06. I use an 16GB SDHC Card in an Neverdrive64 V3 which is insterted into a PAL N64. The upgrade rom starts normally, then I hit "A" to start the upgrade. It stays some seconds on the "validating data" screen, but then cancels with the "3E" error.

Games seem to run without any problems.

Any suggestions or tipps on this problem?

thanks in advance
Patrick
